
3rd UCLG ASPAC CONGRESS 2010 OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Representatives from members of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) for the Asia Pacific Region (ASPAC) will gather in Hamamatsu in Octotber, 2010 for the 3rd UCLG ASPAC Congress. A part of the Congress will also be open to the public. With the continual advancement of globalization and Hamamatsu’s dedication to multiculturalism, this is a great opportunity to think about these issues along with mayors and leaders from the Asia Pacific Region.

The Hamamatsu Foreign Residents Council is now looking for new committee members to participate in council meetings. The goals of the council are to discuss policies involving foreign residents in Hamamatsu and how to improve interaction between the foreign and Japanese communities.

WHO: 8 people (must be a registered foreign resident in Hamamatsu for more than
1 year as of April 4th, 2009)

RECYCLING PLASTIC SHOPPING BAGS

Starting last month on April 1st. Hamamatsu implemented a new trash disposal system that aims to recycle plastic shopping bags and decrease the overall amount of rubbish. Citizens should no longer use plastic shopping bags to throw out their non-plastic rubbish, but should instead purchase specified plastic rubbish bags sold at supermarkets, convenience stores, and home centers. All plastic shopping bags should now be thrown out on the day designated for “plastic containers/packaging.”

Hamamatsu Disaster Prevention E-mail is a mailing service that sends emails to registered cell phones or computers about emergency information, local area information, weather information etc. With the unpredictable weather patterns and the ever-imminent Tokai Earthquake, this service would very useful for getting important information in times of crisis! *This service is free except for any data transfer fees.
