Heavy Rain and Flooding

Before Heavy Rain or Flooding

  • Prepare flashlights and a battery-powered radio in case of a power outage.
  • Store drinking water in case the water supply is cut off.
  • Get an emergency bag ready with essentials and valuables in case you need to evacuate.
  • Pay close attention to weather forecasts, especially warnings about typhoons, rain, or strong winds.
  • Stay indoors. If you’re already outside, return home as soon as possible.
  • Move items in your home to higher places if there’s a chance of water entering.
  • Make sure that vulnerable people such as the elderly, babies, children, people who are ill, or those with disabilities stay in a safe room. Evacuate early if needed.
  • Discuss evacuation routes and how to contact each other if separated with your family.

Preparing for Landslides

Landslides are more likely to occur during typhoons or heavy rainfall.

Evacuation procedures vary depending on where you live and your family situation. It’s important to assess the risks yourself and evacuate early when necessary. If you live in an area at risk of landslides, or if you have elderly family members or others who may need extra time to evacuate, be especially sure to act early.
